Kick-off and current-state analysis
The project starts with a kick-off seminar and an analysis of the current state of selected urban areas.
At this stage:
- waste heat sources and the existing building stock are mapped
- key stakeholders are identified (SMEs, property owners, energy actors)
- the main bottlenecks in utilizing waste heat are outlined.
Area inventories and selection of target sites
Next, two different urban areas are examined in more detail:
- an inventory of an existing area is carried out and a new development site is defined
- the solutions to be studied in the target sites are specified
- a survey of regional example solutions and practices is compiled.
Concept development and optimization
Based on the inventories, heat recovery solutions are developed and optimized:
- the selection and inventories of the target sites are finalized
- key bottlenecks and boundary conditions are described
- different solution alternatives are modelled and optimized from a techno‑economic perspective.
Business models and financing pathways
At the same time, new business models are developed and companies are supported:
- a preliminary market analysis and stakeholder map are prepared
- Business Model Canvas workshops and SME sparring sessions are organized
- a financier roadmap and pitch deck template are created for further development of the solutions.
Co-creation and dissemination of results
Reference groups A and B participate in three facilitated rounds in which they:
- comment on and develop the solutions at different stages
- share experiences and best practices
- prepare the final report and closing event.
The results and materials will be published on a project website to be launched during the project, as well as through the communication channels of the project and the parallel project (KIEHU).
